Where does the money go?

Are the gifts you are selling really needed or are they examples?

Every gift in Wish List has been identified by our country teams to meet the specific needs of the children and communities we work with.

How is my money spent?

When you buy a gift from Wish List your money is spent on the item that you have bought and in some cases the cost to transport the item (this is only the case when the country team would need to find new funding to deliver the item generated by Wish List); the price includes the cost of processing, postage and managing Wish List. If you also add a donation, your additional support will help to fund the whole of Save the Children's work.

How do you decide on the price of a gift?

Because we work in different countries with varying needs and costs, the price of a gift is an average price. If the actual cost of provision is less than the price you have paid, we will buy additional items. If the cost of provision is more than the price you have paid, we will combine the value of gift purchases to buy the item.

What happens if you 'sell out' of a gift?

As soon as this happens the website will display the following message:

Dear Gift Buyers,
Thanks to your generosity the need for this Wish is currently fulfilled. Whilst our country teams reassess the need to provide more of this gift, you can either:
1. choose another gift
2. continue with your purchase and trust us to use the money where the need is greatest
Thank you,
The Wish List team

Why would somebody continue to purchase a gift that is 'sold out'?

We recognise that some gift purchasers are buying the novelty of the gift and that they trust Save the Children to spend the money where the need is greatest.
